On Sunday, April 23rd 2006, James Kellems of the San Dimas Coffee Klatch had the right stuff to win the Latte Art ‘Etching” competition held at the Rancho Cucamonga Klatch. Latte Art ‘Etching’ is when the barista infuses dark espresso crema, white milky froth, and colored syrups to create artistry in a cup. James stole the competition with his original design ‘Skull and Cross Bones”. Second place went to Larry Irwin (of Rancho Cucamonga) with his Irish theme of Shamrocks around the Irish Flag.Baristas are the coffee bartenders who make great drinks every day. The Competition featured the area's finest baristi going head to head in a rich and spirited display of their coffee creativity. To be able to create these beautiful patterns requires an advanced level of artistry and expertise demanding the barista balance all of the scientific factors resulting in a drink that tastes as good as fresh ground coffee smells. The Coffee Klatch is a local Roaster and Retailer of Gourmet Specialty Coffee since 1993. They are home to United States Barista Champion Heather Perry and have been honored with many local and international awards for their coffee and business.
