Matt Plante wins first Battle of the Baristas competion held at the Coffee Klatch in Rancho Cucamonga, Sunday, March 26th 2006. The competition was a free pour challenge to find the best 'latte artist' barista in the area. Second place went to Larry Irwin (also of Rancho Cucamonga) with a beautiful Heart surrounded by rich brown crema. Baristas are the coffee bartenders who make great drinks every day. The Competition featured the area's finest baristi going head to head in a rich and spirited display of their coffee creativity. To be able to create these beautiful patterns requires an advanced level of artistry and expertise demanding the barista balance all of the scientific factors resulting in a drink that tastes as good as fresh ground coffee smells. Matt secured his victory on his final attempt, a beautiful rosetta (a multilayered rose like flower) which was visually stunning, wowing the judges and the audience. The Coffee Klatch is a local Roaster and Retailer of Gourmet Specialty Coffee since 1993. They are home to United States Barista Champion Heather Perry and have been honored with many local and international awards for their coffee and business.
